WR D.J. Moore makes plea for Bears to keep QB Justin Fields

The Bears (7-9) officially own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to their trade with the Carolina Panthers (2-14) last offseason. But WR D.J. Moore doesn't want his team to draft USC QB Caleb Williams, who is the favorite to hear his name called first come April.

"I said it before, I'm going to keep saying it," Moore said. "I want [Justin Fields] to be the quarterback."

Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner, seems like the real deal, throwing for 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns and 10 interceptions from 2022-23. But the NFL has seen several "special" players end up being busts, which is why Moore wants Chicago to stick with its young, talented quarterback.

Fields has been one of the more dynamic quarterbacks in the league the past couple of years. The 24-year-old has 4,656 yards and 33 touchdowns through the air as well as 1,773 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground during the span.

But the Bears have still struggled to win with Fields, who has a 10-27 record as a starter. That is why the million-dollar question is whether they should make a change at quarterback or continue to build around Fields.

Moore, who was a part of the trade for the No. 1 pick in 2023, has been a fantastic addition, posting 92 catches for a career-high 1,300 yards and eight touchdowns. His connection with Fields has been electric, to say the least, and many are beginning to side with Moore.

"Fields and the Moore connection are real. They got to stay with Fields next year," former QB and analyst Chris Simms said. "Forget it. He's too big of a playmaker. ... It's not perfect but it's damn good and he's got some other elite skills about his game that we can't just let go out the door."

The next four months will be important for Chicago as it debates what is the best route to go for the future of the franchise. But if it were up to Moore, the Bears would already be fielding calls for the No. 1 overall pick.
