Wheaties honors Michael Jordan as part of 100th anniversary
Michael Jordan Milwaukee Journal Sentinel-USA TODAY Sports

Michael Jordan is no stranger to gracing the front of a Wheaties box, and it’s especially fitting that the cereal that touts itself as the “Breakfast of Champions” chose to celebrate the icon and six-time NBA title winner as part of its 100th anniversary celebration.

General Mills announced this week that the Hall of Famer, Chicago Bulls legend, five-time NBA MVP and 14-time All-Star is the second revered athlete to grace the box a Wheaties as part of the cereal’s “Century Collector Series.”

Jordan has now been featured on a Wheaties box for a historic 19th time. He first appeared on one in 1988.

“A modern-day legend and inspiration for champions of all ages, Michael Jordan is an incredible athlete, humanitarian and entrepreneur,” said Kathy Dixon, senior brand experience manager for Wheaties, via Business Wire. “We are so proud to launch the next box in our anniversary series honoring one of the greatest sports stars and most-decorated Wheaties athlete in history.”

Jordan follows Muhammad Ali as the second of two athletes now celebrated in the “Century Collector Series.”

Jordan’s inclusion in the series will involve two limited-edition boxes: the traditional regular orange box a well as a collector’s “Gold Foil Box” that arrived on Dec. 14.

Wheaties’ commemorative boxes honor “trailblazing sports icons and their stories of accomplishments on and off the court. The athletes featured in the commemorative series are those who transcend sports and decades as the brand looks to its next 100 years.”
