London and Oslo-based architecture studio Hesselbrand has transformed a series of old horse stables at the Tuscan art retreat Villa Lena into rustic guest suites. Villa Lena is nestled in the heart of Tuscany stretched on a 500-hectare wooded estate, dotted with vineyards and olive groves, reports dezeen.Villa Lena was home of an aristocratic Italian family during the 19th and early 20th-century, but in 2013 it was reopened as a hotel and non-profit art foundation.Hesselbrand has also recently revamped one of the old stables, named Fattoria, into 13 guest rooms that reflect “the playful meeting of the traditional and contemporary,” states the dezeen report.“Fattoria has served so many varied uses throughout the years, so we are excited to use our design to finally open up the site, create new spaces and allow everyone to experience this rich and characterful building,” explained Hesselbrand, co-founders Magnus Casselbrant and Jesper Henriksson to dezeen. “Carefully curated palettes of organic materials and forms have been combined in a way which enhances and amplifies this unique juxtaposition between old and new in both the guest rooms and surrounding social spaces.”The stable’s entrance has been expanded to form a grandiose hallway. The original vaulted ceiling and cobbled stone floors are still featured in the complex. In the white-painted bedroom suites, surfaces are paneled with grooved timber. In the bathrooms, standalone bathtubs have been placed underneath shuttered windows so that guests can enjoy views of the enchanting landscape around. The decor has been maintained simply with ceramic ornaments and antique ottomans on display. Ochre-yellow curtains, pink scatter cushions or large renders an ambiance of warmth and comfort. In this restoration, Hesselbrand also managed to create a small art library within the building. An outdoor yoga studio and open-air pavilion have also been created by the studio for the benefit of guests. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
