In the end, little is known about these so-called ceremonial paddles, except that they were collected in large numbers in the 19th century. One source nonetheless (Brunor 1969 p.7) mentions the fact that they were willing when one leader visited another. Anyway they are among the most incredibly crafted Oceanian sculptures.
