Stella McCartney’s Winter 2019 runway show was a celebration of strength and sustainability at Paris’ opulent Opera Garnier. Models strutted down the runway with dedications from the #ThereSheGrows campaign, as per Stella McCartney’s website.Among the guests, who graced the event, were Anna Wintour, Alexa Chung, Janelle Monae, Lewis Hamilton, and Maisie Williams. “Projecting a powerful persona, the collection evolves our signature contrast of strength and softness while looking to the past, present, and future. Uniting Northern Soul references, fluidity, utility and upcycling, it is a collection designed to empower everyone to look and feel their best,” states the website.Models walked on the runway to a high-energy playlist of songs like “Get Wavey” by Redlight, ‘‘Slippin” by Jaded, “Post That” by Leikeli47, Black Caviar and Anthony, and “Cleopatra.”Stella has been quoted as saying on the website, “We’ve tried to create pieces that you want to hand down from generation to generation; pieces that you want to keep forever. They again crossover between masculine and feminine, and blur the lines — not only between generations — but between genders. It is donated by the past through upcycling and dedicated to the future.”The collection comprised oversized, multicolored dresses ranging from stripped vintage T-shirts, knotted and knitted for a deconstructed look. There were also quilted, tonal-tapestry coats along with monochromatic dresses. This season, the brand collaborated with iconic British brand Hunter to come up with some remarkable rubber boots for men and women. They appear to be not just statement-making pieces but are also durable and sustainable. They are made out of natural rubber having Yulex sock inserts, which is a plant-based alternative to neoprene, according to the website.“Eminent artist Sheila Hicks created exclusive textile adornments for the show, which she explains should be “worn like medals of honor for bravery”. These colorful pieces are draped over or wrapped around the body, designed to be wearable works of art,” mentions the website. The brand states on its website that sustainability is at the forefront, as with all of its collections, with sustainable viscose, organic cotton and Eco-canvas also used. The hope that the collection and the surrounding ThereSheGrows campaign will inspire others to live greener lives, embrace circularity and look toward a greener future. The #ThereSheGrows campaign has been very popular and is also doing its rounds on social media sites.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the show and the campaign https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
