His hands are in the Dhyana mudra, the gesture of Meditation. The Buddha's face is serene, with a naturalistic and warm expression; his head is topped by a detailed ushnisha, in the Angkor style. The serpent is well rendered and symmetrical. This iconography is typical of the reign of Khmer King Jayavarman VII (ca. 1181 to 1218 CE), who established a cult based around it. Estimate: 11,000 £ - 16,000 £ (14,610 USD –21,251 USD)—Lot 0075: An “antique Khmer Temple Guardian in the Angkor Wat style.” Medium: Stone. Dimensions: 105cm / 42a€. Estimate: 7,750 £ - 12,000 £ (10,294 USD – 15,938 USD)—Lot 0042: “Ca. 12th-13th century stele depicting Ganesha. '' The somewhat naive image of Ganesha appears to illustrate an Angkor Wat style sculpture. The style of inscription indicates an Angkor or post-Angkor date, however the stele does not appear to be dated. The stele is inscribed with multiple lines of sanskrit text on its front and rear. The stele without the wood base measures 42 cm x 16.5cm x 9cm (or 36cm tall excluding its locator). Loose mounted to a wood base (later). Estimate: 7,000 £ - 10,500 £ (9,297 USD –13,946 USD)—Lot 0023: “Ca. 17th-18th century stone Male torso - possibly Vishnu - in the Angkor Wat style.” Typical of the Angkor Wat style the sculpture possesses a grandeur, the shoulders are larger, the torso swells to a heavy and conventional shape evoking the aesthetic of the early tenth century. At the same time, the statue is not submitted to strict iconographic norms, the statue loses its stiffness and becomes more human. The box is decorated with scenes from the Ramayana epic - one of the most popular subjects in the 19th century. Hanuman, the monkey general and his army of monkeys (sometimes riding on fish) are depicted in a scene from the Ramayanaa€™s sea battle. Ships are shown on rough waves, with a great number of monkeys on board and birds in flight. Rama and Hanuman are depicted crossing the ocean to get to Lanka where Princess Sita has been hidden by Ravana.
