In Paris, the jewelry brand Chaumet has opened a new cultural space. Nothing is for sale inside, the team only tells the most eloquent fairy tales. This is where literature and arts meet an exquisite savoir-faire.Balzac, Picasso, Karen Blixen… which brand wouldn’t dream of having some of the most famous writers and artists of the past centuries as muses or storytellers? At Chaumet, there was no need to invent anything, because along with many other incredible people throughout history, they were clients or artists who were all somehow connected with the history of the maison. It is exactly those stories that “Brillantes ecritures,” showcases in an elegant house on the Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris, until April 1.Balzac, for example, wrote lines on 19th-century gems from the company, Picasso bought some for his wife Olga, and even contemporary writers such as Veronique Ovalde have been integrated into this exhibition — a first in the world of high-end jewelry.Aside from tiaras and brooches with diamonds and emeralds from the historic collection of Chaumet, original archives, books and photographs and excerpts from famous novels show the powerful history of the brand’s creations. It’s an amazing dialogue that highlights the detailed links between the jeweler and the arts. Back in the 1840s, Chaumet’s ancestor was named Fossin. The name appears in works by Alfred de Musset, Theophile Gautier, and even Balzac: “Before the sublime Fossin designed to abandon tiaras and princely crowns in order to set the pebbles collected by your daughter, I had to do much begging an beseeching, often leaving my retreat where I am trying to set wretched sentences. Fossin is a king, a power.” The icing on the cake of this timeless moment is the Chaumet ambassador who guides visitors through all these histories, with elegance and enthusiasm. This is just the beginning of a great cultural and artistic year for the brand. Four exhibitions will take place in this Parisian cultural space, and the year will be crowned in July by a major show from the most rare and beautiful royal crowns from all over Europe, in Monaco. Definitely something not to be missed. The exhibition “Brillantes ecritures” is on view at Chaumet Saint-Germain, 165, boulevard Saint-Germain, Paris 6 until April 1. Details on other exhibitions will follow soon.https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
