Artcurial will offer 1957 Porsche 550 A Spyder at its upcoming ‘2019 Retromobile Sale The Official Auction,’ on February 8, 2019 in Paris. The pre-auction value of this car is estimated to be one of the highest at the auction, ranging between €3,800,000 and €4,800,000. Giving out the origin and details of this car, the auction house states: “This authentic Porsche 550 A had a rather exotic first destination because it was delivered new to Hubert Wiesse, through Caribbean Motors Co, in Guatemala. Amateur driver, Wiesse has successfully engaged in several South American events, winning the end of 1957 victory at the Carrera Amatitlan and Buen Corazon (El Salvador), with a tenth place in the general classification of 1000 Km of Buenos Aires where he shared the wheel with Jaroslav Juhan while Huschke von Hanstein, then director of the competition at Porsche was expected but did not take part in the race. In the 1958 season, Wiesel won two more victories with this car, at Circuito Santa Anna (Salvador) and Circuito San Benito, which undoubtedly contributed to his title of Central American Champion such as he appears on a Porsche advertisement recalling the success of the brand in the race. It should be noted that Santa Anna another 550 A was engaged by Ricardo Rodriguez who had to give up after losing a wheel. In 1958, the first engine was replaced by another of the same type, No. 90101.” This 1957 Porsche 550 A Spyder to be offered at the auction is an essential milestone for the Porsche saga in competition. It has only five known owners and it has superb presentation and quality catering. It is eligible for most prestigious events. “Today, the presentation of this spyder almost perfectly respects the initial configuration of the car. The cockpit features fabric-compliant fabric bucket seats in front of the full dashboard and the original wood rim steering wheel. The car still carries its ‘Karrosserie Wendler,’ from Reutlingen, bearing the number 550 A 0126 and the date 1957. The front cover conceals a large capacity tank and the bodywork has the fine and elegant shape of the one that was the first Porsche exclusively designed for racing,” states the auction house. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
