Artcurial’s upcoming auction, “Retromobile 2019 Sale:The Official Auction” will feature the 1953 Maserati A6GCS by Fiandri. The auction will be held on February 8, 2019, at Salon Retromobile Hall 2.1 Paris Expo - Porte de Versailles in Paris. Describing the machine, the auction house stated, “The present Maserati A6GCS has experienced a typical competition machine existence, whose history is known with continuity and without shadows, which is rare for this type of car. Starting with a succession of enthusiastic amateur drivers who modified her to continue to live their passion, she then moved into the world of the collection, finding a form of integrity. Equipped today with the engine that equipped the A6GCS # 2067 Mille Miglia 1954, so a good vintage engine, it is an opportunity to acquire one of the finest competition trays of all time. Gracious, light, agile and rare, the Maserati A6GCS is one of the dreams of any racing enthusiast. The test we did was very exciting. So light, her power is endless and her climbs are beastly. Her handling is wonderful and playful. At the end of the test, drunk with sensations, our only desire was to participate in the Mille Miglia at the wheel!”The press release of the auction house further added, “It is accompanied by reports from two brand specialists who have delved into the past, John de Boer and Walter Baumer. We invite interested customers to consult them.”Major highlights of this 1953 Maserati A6GCS are that its history is known from the beginning and its engine # 2067 had participated in the Mille Miglia in 1954. It has a typical life of a competition car and has a model of an incomparable beauty. After the model exited from the workshop in March 1953, “this Maserati A6GCS was delivered new to Tony Pompeo, Ducati Motors (New York), distributor of Italian sports and competition cars. It was long thought that this Maserati had been used for a presentation on the circuit Bridgehampton, December 12, 1953, in the hands of Juan Manuel Fangio, but recent evidence seems to challenge this statement. Be that as it may, the car was sold in February 1954 to Donald McKnought, residing in Clark, New Jersey,” reports Artcurial. As reported by the auction house, this car has been handed over to several owners as it has been passed into the hands of Bruce Canepa (2004-2006), Peter Hosmer (2006-2007) and Craig Davis, who sold it to the present owner in 2012. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
