AFL Architects recently revealed details about their proposal for Turkey’s soccer stadium for UEFA Euro 2024 bid. The UK-based firm has proposed to renovate and adapt the existing Olympic stadium plans and has already evaluated the upgrade and design of three stadia and the readiness of seven stadia in collaboration with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), noted ArchDaily. AFL Architects envision the Ataturk Stadium to “become the new home of Turkish football.” The design seeks to bring the spectators and the game in a closer relationship. The firm has also worked on enhancing the acoustics and ensure world-class hospitality.John Roberts, Sports Director, AFL Architects, said: “This partnership with the TFF is an exciting development for the practice. Our team has significant experience in the delivery of UEFA, FIFA and Olympic stadia and master plans. Being involved at such an early stage of a major event is a fantastic opportunity and one where we are able to demonstrate the full potential of our expertise.”The renovation works will focus on integrating modern technology into the existing structure of the Olympic Stadium. The structure will be cocooned in a white GRC exoskeleton “with integrated wind technology generating energy from the hilltop site,” noted ArchDaily. The stadium will also feature a 360-video wall inside and on the outside, projecting 65-foot-high images. The video wall will create an enthralling experience by activating the external plaza with pre-match and post-match displays, of light shows, cheering crowds, and interviews. The scheme is being planned in two phases. The first phase involves readapting the existing structure with a new lower tier with concourses and player facilities. Second phase will focus on rebuilding the upper tiers featuring skyboxes, hospitality lounges with a capacity for 92,000 spectators.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
