Edoardo Tresoldi is known for his magnificent wire mesh sculptures. The Italian artist recently unveiled his biggest sculptural installation “Etherea” for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. The site-specific installation features three transparent structures evoking Neoclassical and Baroque architecture. Tresoldi, who features in the Forbes’ list of 30 most influential European artists, uses architecture as a tool for contemplation. His sculptures are “a dedicated space where the sky and clouds are narrated through the language of classical architecture.”The transparency of Etherea’s wire mesh structure allows “the California landscape to penetrate the space.” The outside landscape filters and influences the internal atmosphere. The installation also represents the culmination of the artist’s research in the field of music. With three structures standing at the heights of 36, 54, and 72 feet, the installation marks a departure in scale from Tresoldi’s previous works.Edoardo Tresoldi states: “The installation plays ironically on the dualism between the pure and the filtered experiences that intertwine with one another, to eventually leave the man at the center of it all. With the passage from a macro-reality to a restricted one, the human body becomes a key to read, discover, measure and experience reality, just like architecture itself. An analogy between man, architecture and their surroundings is ultimately established.”The installation, which stands in the temporary city created for the Coachella festival, forms an anchored space for public and is designed for continuous interaction with the festival’s audience. “The scheme seeks to embody the spirit of the festival itself, an artwork designed to express the transient nature of clouds, and the majesty of the natural environment,” noted ArchDaily. http://www.blouinartinfo.comFounder: Louise Blouin Read more
