Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec’s Alcova collection was unveiled as part of the “Kosmos” installation by WonderGlass at the ongoing Milan Design Week. The French brothers have designed a series of handcrafted geometric objects with glass, which can sit alone or be grouped to create intimate landscapes. In the words of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, “The Alcova collection is a series of colored cast glass geometrical shapes that are organically composed. We approached this project in a brutal and primary way, working with the thickness of the material and letting the process guide us, seeking to preserve all the magic of the ballet of molten glass manipulated by master glassmakers.”“Kosmos” also features a striking installation “Through the Clouds” by Italian Atelier Fornasetti, which evokes a daydream. Delicate hand-made glass clouds float above the viewer in a custom-designed, brass faceted pavilion. The obelisks protruding from the clouds recall the ancient Egyptian tradition of worshipping obelisks as a symbol of the sun god.WonderGlass also brings a selection of architectural glass innovations to the festival including floor mosaics and geometric furniture pieces. One of the highlights is a luminous, malleable cast glass bench by adventurous Israeli designer Dan Yeffet. The theme of the “Kosmos” continues in yet another installation “Echo,” an illuminated sculpture featuring a series of glass disks that produce a simulating sound scape, reminiscent of gravitational waves emanating from black holes. A stop-motion film “Invisible Cities,” featuring the tale of a glass ball lost in a magical world, is also part of the exhibit. The film explores the role of glass in urban and architecture environments.“Kosmos” by WonderGlass is on view through April 22, 2018, at Istituto dei Ciechi, Via Vivaio 7, Milan, Italy 20122For more information, visit: https://wonderglass.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peak at the collection.http://www.blouinartinfo.comFounder: Louise Blouin Read more
