London-based artist Anish Kapoor has designed a sleek red statue with Britannia goddess enclosed within for the Brit Awards ceremony next year.The transparent, blocky red award features female personification of Britain – the Britannia, inside. Kapoor has used his unique sculptural approach to arrive at the striking trophy which will be presented to the Brit Awards winners on February 21, 2018. The crimson rectangular trophy, Kapoor informs Dezeen, is made using both positive and negative form. He says “sculpture is often a process of positive and negative form, and I have made the award using both.” This year the Brit Awards trophies were designed by late Zaha Hadid. By designing the award for next year, Anish Kapoor has become the first sculptor ever to design the prestigious Brit Awards trophy.Acclaiming Kapoor’s genius, Brit Awards chairman Jason Iley informed, "Anish has created some of the most adventurous and memorable works of our lifetime, which is reflected in the new Brit award." Born in in India in 1954, Anish Kapoor came to UK in the 1970s. For his amazing works, he was awarded with prestigious Turner Prize in 1991.
