The 31-storey Canaletto tower located in the London borough of Islington is now complete. The residential complex offers waterside living through its 190 residential units — a combination of studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments, and one penthouse with a full rooftop — along with a host of shared amenities and spaces for leisure and recreation.UNStudio’s design enhances the near and distant townscape views through detail, scale, and material variation. Clusters of adjacent floors are grouped together, which Ben van Berkel (UNStudio) says, are designed to make the residents “feel like they are part of a unique work of architecture, something that is identifiably theirs. This is why the design of Canaletto really emphasizes this clustering of different floors – small communities that are visibly unique from other nearby towers.”The unique cluster concept is designed to enhance transparency and frame the views of sky and the townscape, creating a nuanced silhouette. The balconies within each cluster have been modelled to lend variability to the facade and enhance the living experience. Unique, high quality sheltered spaces have been designed so that residents can enjoy outdoor spaces to the maximum.
