Galerie Patrick Seguin, Paris pays tribute to the celebrated twentieth century French designer and architect Jean Prouvé in its latest exhibition “JEAN PROUVÉ: Architect For Better Days.”The exhibition features the architect’s demountable construction systems through a dozen prefabricated buildings that have been assembled at a single location – underlining Prouvé’s functional architecture that is relevant even today in the context of housing and migration issues. The installations that are part of “JEAN PROUVÉ: Architect for Better Days” include the portable home series produced by Prouvé in the late 1930s, temporary houses for refugees, military barracks in prefabricated steel and wood, along with a demountable prototype that he created for a packing company Ferembal. The ingenious architect won much accolades during the Second World War for his economic use of material for quality construction, innovative techniques, and outstanding design solutions, which were used to address both civilian and military needs. In 1947, Prouvé undertook a mass scale production of prefabricated home units to address the housing needs post war, along with improvement of schools and social infrastructure, exemplifying the achitect’s commitment to apply industrial architecture for social needs.Le Corbusier gave Prouvé the designation of a ‘constructeur’ paying tribute to the architect-designer’s ability to balance elemental design, economic construction, innovative techniques, and material integrity. Prouvé is also acclaimed for his iconic furniture which he constructed is the same way he would construct a house. The exhibition is on view through the spring of 2018 at Tuileries Garden, Paris. For details, visit: http://www.blouinartinfo.com/galleryguide/galerie-patrick-seguin/overviewClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
