Laffanour Galerie Downtown, Paris, is hosting an exhibition of works by Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007).The show features several of Sottsass’ pieces including furniture, objects, and historical lighting. Over the years, these have become collector’s items. The exhibition reflects the richness of the pieces on display and simultaneously charts the designers’ artistic evolution. A designer, architect, graphic designer, artist, and a ceramist, Sottsass was keen on exploring a number of fields of expressions with the outmost sensory freedom. His work has been an amalgamation of functional forms, color, new materials, and humor. He used to surround himself with designers and architects who were part of the Antidesign movement. The selection of works on display features ceramics to modular furniture. In Galerie Downtown, François Laffanour handles furniture created by European and American masters of design, mostly architects by trade. For 25 years, the gallery has hosted thematic as well as monographic exhibitions by designers such as Jean Prouvé, Charles and Ray Eames, Carlo Mollino and Charlotte Perriand. Galerie Downtown also owns and works with the Galerie Steph Simon archives. It also has the exclusive rights for Ron Arad’s furniture in France. The exhibition runs from October 19 through November 30, 2017, at Laffanour Galerie Downtown, 18 Rue de Seine, 75006 Paris, France. For details, visit: www.galeriedowntown.comClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
