The Design Museum, London has announced the nominees for the tenth edition of Beazley Designs of the Year. The 62 nominees across six categories - Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Graphics, Product, and Transport - will be featured in the annual exhibition at the museum starting October 18.Nominees in the Fashion category include a hijab designed by Nike and a clothing line by Kanye West. The augmented reality mobile game, Pokemon Go, and the free, single typeface Google Noto have won nominations in the Digital category. The National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. designed by recently knighted Sir David Adjaye has been nominated in the Architecture category. Other nominees in this category include Zaha Hadid Architects’ Antwerp Port House, Francis Kéré’s Lycée Schorge Secondary School, and OMA’s II Fondaco Tedeschi development in Venice, Italy. Remolten, the world’s first translating earpiece, along with a furniture line made from molten lava, and ink made from air pollution are some of the innovations that have been nominated in the Product category. The Transport category includes the world’s first 3D printed self-driving bus, space-age water taxis by SeaBubbles and a self-balancing motorcycle by Honda.The exhibition will provide a snapshot into the exciting world of design through sketches, models, physical pieces, videos, and photography from the world’s most established talent alongside graduates and rising stars.
